Home inspectors should be looking at the common areas, such as hallways, roofs, siding etc. Leaks in the siding, roofs, etc. can effect the unit.

The location of utility shut-offs are important and these may not be located inside the condo. unit. For example, the electrical is usually located on the side of condo unit or in a common room. You should know the locations and have access to them at all times in case of emergency.

As a home inspector, I tell the customer to contact the association for further information, such as when the roof is going to done if it needs repairs or replacement.

Also for the bylaws to see what you are responsible for. This may include that as the owner of unit you need to shovel the snow at your front walk, deck, etc.
