Starbucks Arbitrage

Starbucks is starting a new gimmick nationwide today to try and boost afternoon sales. Essentially, if you buy a drink in the morning, bring your receipt in after 2PM that same day, and get any Grande cold drink for just $2 plus tax. Some drinks offer significant savings with this deal.

So what if I buy a coffee in the morning, but I’m not really a coffee-in-the-afternoon kind of girl? I can sell my receipt to some afternoon coffee addict! Starbucks arbitrage! I’m going to try it this afternoon. Any takers? I have a receipt from this morning, I’ll sell it to you for $1. Send me an email. It would be most convenient if I could meet you somewhere in West Hartford Center. I’m not driving my receipts around…

   I’m sick to death of seeing Starbucks edge out much more pleasant places with couches, books and a more comfortable style. Every neighborhood I’ve lived in becomes a magnet for trouble when a Starbucks opens. Thugs, gangbangers and yahoos congregate around these strip-mall style places like files around poop. Years ago there were mom-and-pop style places that were nicer and felt homey. You knew who the people were that ran it and they knew you. Starbucks ruins neighborhoods.
