GHREB Goes to Paris, France

NOTE: Non-real estate related post follows. Real estate posts will start again on Monday. Stay warm this weekend!

The background. Kyle and I hadn’t been on vacation for about 3 years. So late this fall I decided that we really needed to go away somewhere for a little while. Vacation is always tricky in real estate because, well, it’s kind of like you’re running a 24/7 convenience store with one employee. And if the employee is out sick or away, the store is closed. And a closed store isn’t going to feed the employee’s family. Also I’m a little bit of a customer satisfaction and control freak, so closing the store isn’t really something I like to do. Ever.

But no vacation eventually equals burnout, so what are you going to do? Apparently, go to Paris, France for 6 days, if you’re me. But also schedule it during a slow time of the year (the beginning of January), so there isn’t too much going on. Thankfully 2 lovely agents in my office were willing to assist my buyer and seller clients while I was away. And all of my fantastic clients were glad to hear that I was going on an adventurous vacation and happy with the agents that would be assisting them while I was gone. Phew.

So we went to Paris for 6 days. And now we’re back. You didn’t even know we were away thanks to the amazing “Schedule Post Publish” feature for my blog. :) We literally took hundreds of pictures and here are some of my favorites from the trip…

Notre Dame

Sacre Coeur Basilica

Venus de Milo at the Louvre

Rodin’s, The Thinker

Arc de Triomphe and view from the top

Galleries Lafayette. This is actually a department store, of huge proportions. West Farms Mall it is not…

Ferris Wheel at the Jardin de Tuileries

Winged Victory at the Louvre

Monet’s Water Lilies at the Musee de l’Orangerie. My absolute favorite art on the trip.

And last but not least, the Eiffel Tower

  1. Kerri

Wow! What gorgeous photos! I had no idea that Water Lilies was so long.

  2. Amy

I didn’t really know about the Water Lilies either. Apparently there are about 250 Water Lily paintings. Monet did a series of 8 of them that are displayed in 2 oval rooms at the Musee de l’Orangerie. They were huge. He donated them on his death and requested that they be displayed this way. It was really wonderful.

Is the ferris wheel new, or did I somehow totally miss that when I was in the Tuilerees??

  4. Amy

Not sure if the ferris wheel is new or not. It was pretty popular, even in the cold weather. It was at the far end of the park, away from the Louvre, where all of the streets connect in the rotary heading toward the Arc de Triomphe.

  5. Julie

    Great, great photos!

I can’t wait to hear about your trip.

The ferris wheel was not there in May 2007. Does that make it new?

When are we going to do the fundraiser to get Kerri to Paris? (That rhymes if you say it in French.)

  6. Kerri

I have a colleague who, upon being informed that my “savings account” is called my “paris account”, nearly exploded with joy. He thought I meant that I’d be moving there, not visiting. Bet I could get him to chip in.

We should have a Paris Photo night during which everyone who has been drags out their photo albums.

  7. EmGee

Ooh, I like the photo album idea. Mostly because it would force me to finally put my photos INTO an album. I’m such a slacker on that stuff.
