We appreciate our readers, and know that they (you) are intelligent observers of the local real estate markets. But let’s see just how smart you are … it’s time for a real estate quiz!
In our first attempt at posting a quiz, we’re going to use a CSS trick to hide the answer. Roll your mouse over the area below the choices and the answer will appear. I’m pretty sure it will work just fine if you click through to the actual post, but am not sure what will happen for folks who follow our posts using an RSS reader. My guess is the RSS reader may not hide the answer, but the only way to find out is send this out and see what happens. As always, feedback is appreciated in the comments area.
What is commonly counted as “living area” in a raised ranch style home? Asked another way, when you see the square footage of a raised ranch in a listing, what portions of the house does that count?
- Upstairs and the finished portion downstairs
- Upstairs only
- All finished space except the hallways and bathrooms
- Downstairs only
Answer: Choice B, Upstairs Only. Most towns in Greater Hartford count all of the upstairs square footage, including the hallways and bathrooms, as a raised ranch’s livable area. This can vary by town, or unique attributes of the home, but your first thought should be that the listing is telling you the size of the upstairs. If there is additional finished space on the lower level, you would need to mentally add that to the square footage in the listing in order to make a true size comparison between a raised ranch and a different style home, like a colonial.
