What do we think, gang, 6 more weeks of winter? Does it matter what the groundhog says since it’s going to take at least a couple months for the snow we already have to melt? Six more weeks of winter seems inevitable. I guess it does because if we get too much more snow we’re at risk of turning into a glacier. But glacier-like conditions would be a huge boost for Mayor Segarra’s idea of putting a snow park on the Hartford Landfill. And now that we have an all-powerful snow and ice removal machine at our disposal we can grind through the mess to clean up the streets. Just check out this shot from Farmington Ave in Hartford. It cut through a 5 foot iceberg in the driving lane and threw the debris into a 8 foot tall pile on the other side of the sidewalk! Bring it, Groundhog!

Events & Activities

Super Bowl, Sun 2/6, Kickoff at 6:29pm(?)
The Super Bowl absolutely dominates the schedule this week. It’s an event so massive that it has a gravity field all its own. In some ways it’s like a star (the flaming ball of gas kind, not like Brad Pitt). No other major events are scheduled at the same time – get too close and all the potential viewers will be burned up. At the same time smaller events orbit the Super Bowl like planets, feeding off its energy. Specialty halftime programs compete for different demographics, while TV shows premiere right after the game. And who isn’t going to buy the Super Bowl branded products for their blowout party with they’re hosting with their brand new HDTV they got at the Super Bowl sale (or Rent-a-Center)?

Chinese New Year, Thu 2/3
We should also point out that the Year of the Rabbit begins on Thursday of this week. We know the new year celebration is a big deal, and have heard about at least a couple local parties to ring it in. We’re less sure what to expect in the Year of the Rabbit. Are there different expectations for different years? Our (very basic) research provides some information about people who were born in a Year of the Rabbit, but that’s about it.

Open Houses

Although it’s logistically possible to fit in an open house or two before kickoff, we’ve found that the general public is not focused on real estate on the day of the big game. No open houses. The good news is that we’ll be happy to take people out touring homes all weekend. And since kickoff is after dark, we can still promise to wrap it up in time for your party!

What Else?

Send Kyle (KyleB@KyleB-RE.com) a quick note if you know of other events we should include … thanks!

Tomorrow is Groundhog Day.
