{"id":630,"date":"2008-08-25T06:21:01","date_gmt":"2008-08-25T10:21:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amybergquist.com\/blog\/?p=630"},"modified":"2008-08-25T06:21:01","modified_gmt":"2008-08-25T10:21:01","slug":"google-street-view","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amybergquist.com\/blog\/2008\/08\/25\/google-street-view\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Street View"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those Google folks are always working hard to gather and index information.\u00c2\u00a0 On occasion it relates to real estate and is actually directly useful\u00c2\u00a0in the buying and selling process.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>The ongoing rollout of the Street Views feature of Google Maps is a helpful tool for buyers interested in getting a sense of how houses fit into the overall neighborhood.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-631 aligncenter\" title=\"Google Street View\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amybergquist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/googlestreetview.jpg\" alt=\"Google Street View\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The blue roads on the above map show where\u00c2\u00a0Street Views are available.\u00c2\u00a0 Some towns in our area have much better coverage than others.\u00c2\u00a0 Farmington, New Britain, Newington, Weathersfield, Manchester, Windsor all have very broad coverage.\u00c2\u00a0 Avon seems pretty good south of Route 44, and West Hartford is good west of Main Street.\u00c2\u00a0 Hartford has basically no coverage and Simsbury is very weak.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Using the feature is quite easy, and like most new things I discover on the internet, a little addictive.\u00c2\u00a0 Click on the &#8220;Street View&#8221; button at the top of a map\u00c2\u00a0to access the feature.\u00c2\u00a0 Roads where the feature is available turn blue, and a little yellow dude appears on the map with a picture of the surrounding area.\u00c2\u00a0 You can then rotate around 360 degrees as if you are standing right there in the middle of the road.<\/p>\n<p>As an example of why this could be helpful, consider the picture below.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-632\" title=\"Google Street View Victorians\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amybergquist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/googlestreetviewvictorians.jpg\" alt=\"Google Street View Victorians\" width=\"600\" height=\"362\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Did you know that there is a cul-de-sac in West Hartford that has Victorian-style homes that were built in the\u00c2\u00a0mid 1980s?\u00c2\u00a0 They are unique in town, and if you came across one in isolation listed for sale on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raveis.com\">www.raveis.com<\/a>, then you could use Google Street View to see that it&#8217;s not an odd duck dropped in the middle of 1960s-era split-level homes.<\/p>\n<p>I got to wondering how they actually got all these pictures.\u00c2\u00a0 Rumor has it that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2007\/05\/31\/the-google-street-view-vehicle-revealed\/\">there is a van that drives around with camera mounted on the top<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcs.csuhayward.edu\/~tebo\/GoogleStreetViewVan\/\">Details are sketchy<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 More effort has been exerted in identifying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetviewfun.com\/\">weird scenes and situations<\/a> captured by the van as it photographs\u00c2\u00a0the country.\u00c2\u00a0 Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Those Google folks are always working hard to gather and index information.\u00c2\u00a0 On occasion it relates to real estate and is actually directly useful\u00c2\u00a0in the buying and selling process.\u00c2\u00a0 The ongoing rollout of the Street Views feature of Google Maps is a helpful tool for buyers interested in getting a sense of how houses fit into the overall neighborhood.
