A Little Something Bakery – West Hartford

A Little Something Bakery, 335 Park Road, West HartfordI have a sweet tooth. Actually, based on how much I like sugary items, it’s more likely that I have a whole mouth of sweet teeth. So recently when I was driving down Park Road in West Hartford and saw that a new bakery opened next to Hall’s Market, I just had to stop in and check it out.

I was happily greeted by the owner, pastry chef and West Hartford resident, Beth Bolton and a co-worker, as they waited on a few other customers. I took my time making my selections as I looked beneath the little glass domes that carefully housed delectables. Oh, the choices! Should I go with the Lemon Blueberry Scone, a Blueberry Muffin, or maybe a Crumb Cake Square? The shop smelled heavenly, so I figured I really couldn’t go wrong, no matter what I decided.

Dirt Bomb and Raspberry Breakfast BarThe “Dirt Bomb” won my first pick- a mix between a donut and muffin, covered in sugar spice goodness. I also chose a Raspberry Breakfast Bar, a more traditional treat with a shortbread-like base, raspberry jam middle layer, and butter crumb topping. Both were presented nicely and traveled well back to my home in their cardboard bakery box.

The Dirt Bomb did not disappoint. It was happily noshed with some milk. I also had a tiny piece of the oversized Raspberry Breakfast Bar, which was also quite tasty.

A Little Something Bakery offers pies, tarts, cakes, cookies, and cheesecakes, in addition to their breakfast treats. They also help plan items for other special events, including wedding cakes.

So if you’re in the Park Road area and have a hankering for something sweet, be sure to stop by!

  1. I have visited this lovely bakery several times and my favorites are the blue berry scones and the carmel breakfast bar. The Valentines Day red velvet cupcakes also hit the spot! This is a fabulous addition to Park Road, and West Hartford!

  2. Before Beth had her bakery, our office has ordered many cakes from her for birthdays etc. and every one is delicious. I am looking forward to the birthdays we have coming up including my own!

  3. I stopped in on Saturday and bought 2 blueberry lemon scones and 3 oatmeal cookies. Yum, yum !

So far my favorite cake is lemon!

  4. I have known Beth for a few years now, and there isn’t anything that she makes that I don’t love. I am not a big almond flavor person, but her “Cloud Cookies” are to die for. I am a convert now. I look forward to trying many more of her great delighta!!!

  5. Wow, Beth has quite the loyal following. That’s great and you can count me as a recent convert! 🙂

  6. It is great to see the bakery doing well and getting the rave reviews that it deserves!! Keep up the great work, Beth! Try the scones! There isn’t one that I have not liked…..

  7. I can’t get enough, when ever I get out of work early enough I have to stop by. Today’s lesson was supposed to be (the poor college student that I am) “How to buy just one thing at Beth’s Bakery” but I just couldn’t do it!

  8. I consider my self a ” Cake Aficionado”, I will travel near and far to get my Cake fix. Who needs to travel to NYC to get the BEST cupcake?!!? Magnolia’s move aside! West Hartford has their very own, no need to go far! I am so happy to see that this bakery is doing well. “A Little Something Bakery” deserves a TWO THUMBS UP!!!

  9. I was disappointed by this vendor recently.

I ordered a double chocolate 9″ birthday cake, to be freshly baked and picked up on Saturday afternoon.

I arrived at the agreed day/time, paid for my order and carried it home.

Upon opening the box, I discovered I had purchased a partially frozen cake, of commercial bakery quality of the type sold at Stop N’ Shop, of inferior quality and flavor. Needless to say, the cake had not been freshly baked, at least not within the past month.

The next week I confronted the owner of the shop, a woman in her fifties, who sheepishly admitted, that, yes, many of the goods in this store are bought elsewhere and repackaged.

She was unable to provide me with a refund of my purchase price nor provide me with any recompense to ensure my continued custom.

I do not recommend this vendor.

  10. This is a fake ad site. My review, which truthfully revealed that this bakery did not perform as advertised, was deleted, and not published. I will be reporting both of you to the FTC for in-trade violations (all of your reviews must be from people associated with this business, and as such, these people must disclose their relationship to the business). I bet your real estate, financial planning and insurance businesses are likewise supported by fake testimonials and tainted statements. I’ll be yelping about all of you this PM.

  11. Our apologies that we didn’t moderate your comment quickly enough for your liking. See, if you’ve never commented on this blog before, it goes into a holding tank which we have to physically review and approve. I do this once a day because the blog gets overwhelmed with spam comments. Your comment got stuck in the holding tank. Twice actually because you didn’t use the same username each time. Therefore you were stuck. We did not delete your comment as you state. It just hadn’t been reviewed and approved yet. Now it has. Here they are.

I’m sorry you did not have a good experience with this bakery. We have no affiliation with them. This blog post was written about a year and a half ago so it hasn’t gotten a comment in a long time. Until now. We don’t care if people like the place or not. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and has different experiences.

Hopefully you’ll find another bakery to your liking in the area. If you do, we’d love for you to come back here and make a positive comment about it. People are always looking for good bakeries in Greater Hartford.

    Best of luck to you,
    Amy & Kyle

  12. I agree with Gomer Pyle there – the place IS awful. I’m surprised it hasn’t closed up yet – its only a matter of time.

  13. I think Lt. Col you are talking about the wrong bakery, i know for a fact that the bakery does not but products elsewhere and repackage them, especially not the cakes. they are made from scratch, that means no mixes not brought in frozen, the bakery does have a disclaimer when you check out that the cakes are kept refridgerator until you pick them up due to the heat and humidity in tha store; and you need to let the cake come to room temperature before serving.
