Call Before You Dig

Thinking about doing some landscaping in your yard? Putting in a fence or deck? Before you dig one hole in Connecticut, please call 811 or Call Before You Dig. Not only is it the smart thing to do, but if you’re using power or mechanized equipment, it’s the law.

Even though you can’t see them, utility lines are feeding in to your house below ground. You potentialy risk injury to yourself and others, inconvenience to your neighborhood, and fines and repair costs if you damage utility lines while digging.

When you call 811 or Dig Safe, you’ll want to mark your work area with white paint or white flags to alert the utility companies where you’ll be working on your property. Crews from the necessary utility companies will then visit your home and mark your lawn, indicating underground lines. It may take a few days for them to arrive, but the safety of you and those around you is worth it.

Just a little planning ahead will allow you to embark on your yard project safely and start reaping the rewards of your improvements.

And thanks to one of my loyal readers for bringing this important step to my attention! 🙂
